5 Years in Durham

5 years of MY Durham yoga studio

As we hit the 5 year milestone in Durham, we can’t help but to look back on all the amazing memories we’ve had over these past years. We opened our doors with a simple intention: to create a space where movement, mindfulness, and community could come together. Five years and nearly 20,000 classes later, we’re still challenging ourselves and our students and setting the gold standard for yoga in the Durham community.

memories from MY DURHAM

We were able to gather special memories from some of the people who have been with us since the very beginning:

Do you remember your first class at Midtown Yoga?

“Post COVID shutdown. Masks required. Flameless candles marked spaces (6 feet apart!). CRAZY!”
—Craig + Kathy, founding members

“One of my earliest class memories at Midtown was in 2021 during peak pandemic. It was a warm flow in studio 1 and I think it was with Dakota. There were candles set out to make sure we were social distancing and we were all wearing masks. Even with those restrictions, I already felt the close community. I was working from home, so those classes were some of my limited in person connections. I also did a lot of outdoor classes on the lawn during those early pandemic months.”
—Jennifer, founding member

First impressions matter, especially at a new studio. And yes, ours included hot yoga… in masks. The pandemic definitely changed what our opening looked like, but we’ve come so far since those early days. We’re so thankful that so many people have followed us on this journey in the Bull City!

What’s your favorite memory at Midtown Yoga?

“It actually didn’t happen at Midtown. I was at a New Year’s house party in Durham and someone there recognized me from classes we had been doing together for months! She introduced herself then and there and we have been friends ever since.”
—Eliza, founding member

This is just one of many moments that reflect the broad reach of our community. What we’ve created here extends far beyond our classes and studio walls. We are constantly growing through connection, consistency, and shared purpose. Our community is always evolving by welcoming new faces while also staying rooted in the connections that make it so special.

How has MY helped you outside of the studio?

“My daily yoga practice at Midtown helps me to show up as a sane person in the world 🤪”
Karla, founding member

Yoga has a way of bringing you back to yourself, especially in a world that constantly pulls you in every direction. At our studios, our classes are designed to meet you where you are, whether you need to release stress, build strength, or simply sweat for an hour. Through heated flows, mindful movement, and a supportive community, your time on the mat becomes more than just a workout, it becomes a tool for staying grounded, balanced, and steady no matter what life throws your way.

What keeps you coming back to MY Durham?

“The instructors!”
—Daniel, founding member

We’re so grateful for the team that has shaped Midtown Yoga over the past five years. Today, we’re proud to still have three founding teachers with us: Katlyn, Catalina, and Kelly S.

“I keep coming back because I feel a benefit in my body and soul. The staff is engaging and the classes always feel top notch. I’ve had a lot of instructors during my time at Midtown Yoga and everyone has been fantastic! My practice has grown and my life benefits from my time here.”
—Jill, founding member

No matter what draws you back to us, whether it’s the challenge, the calm, the connection, or the consistency, we’re endlessly grateful for you. These past five years have been shaped by every class taken, every breath shared, and every moment spent together on the mat. Thank you for being part of this community and for continuing to show up, support one another, and grow with us. It means more than we can put into words.

FIVE YearS Down. Forever to Go.
