MY Teacher Training Experience

Yoga teacher training doesn’t always begin with certainty.

Sometimes it begins with curiosity, a feeling, or just a hunch that there’s something more to discover in life. At Midtown Yoga, our 200-hour Teacher Training program (MY YTT) doesn’t just teach alignment and cueing—it holds space for the kind of transformation that sneaks up on you in the quiet moments. You don’t need a particular body type, mobility to hold a handstand, or years of yoga experience to start. Just show up with curiosity, commitment, and an open heart. Through a blend of challenges and deep self-study, yoga teacher trainees are reminded that the essence of yoga is really a journey back to the self. What unfolds over those three months is rarely what anyone expects—and almost always exactly what they need.

What can you expect from MY YTT?

The curriculum at Midtown Yoga is as expansive as it is intentional. Trainees explore everything from teaching methodology and intelligent sequencing to anatomy, philosophy, self-inquiry, meditation, and pranayama. Weekly sessions balance structure and depth—anchored by a reading list that includes The Yamas & Niyamas, Yoga Anatomy, and Atlas of the Heart—and are led by passionate instructors who keep things both rigorous and refreshingly human. The schedule (two weeknights plus longer sessions on weekends) is intentionally designed to support busy lives while offering an immersive experience.

Every lesson, every page, and every practice is designed to move students closer to something deeper than just certification. The intention of the program is to achieve a clearer understanding of the self—body, mind, and soul.

“After 8 weeks, 200 hours—and 1,000 Chaturangas later—I went from originally signing up to deepen my yoga practice to designing and teaching entire classes with a depth of knowledge on yoga anatomy. I also grew my practice beyond asana, learning about my chakra system, the history of yoga and the other limbs of yoga,” says Tracy, MY YTT 2021 graduate.

Will this change the way I practice yoga?

Maybe—but perhaps not in the way you expect.

You’ll memorize muscle groups and learn neutral alignment for your spine, but the real shift happens in the moments no one sees—a stillness on your mat, a sentence in a book, a glance across the room that says you’re not alone. Some days you’ll feel cracked wide open. Some days you’ll wonder what you’re even doing here. And then, a quiet understanding settles in.

“I think I am most surprised by the calm that comes with chaos. How when you push yourself to the edge physically, the mind surrenders and creates calm. Something about the focused energy, whether it be exertion in class, or through intense study, brings about an emotional calmness for me. It is centering. How I was so busy with TT and life outside of it, which forced me to be really present in everything I do.” shares Brooke, MY YTT 2025.

Logan, MY YTT 2025, adds, “My relationship with myself evolved so much throughout this 10 week journey. Incorporating all the knowledge from this training into my daily life has made for a clearer mind and healthier body.”

That’s the kind of learning you don’t forget.

Do I have to become a yoga teacher if I want to take MY YTT?

Absolutely not.

Some people walk in with dreams of leading packed studio classes. Others walk in with no intention of teaching at all. Both are welcome. Both are valid. Midtown Yoga’s teacher training isn’t just about preparing you to lead others, it’s about reconnecting with yourself. You might discover that you love sequencing or that you’re unexpectedly good at guiding breathwork. Or you might realize that teaching isn’t the point. Sometimes the deepest calling is simply to listen.

As Wendy, MY YTT 2025, shared, “I am not particularly introspective or meditative in my own life, so YTT really opened a new avenue for me. It pushed me to self-reflect and process my own life while implementing the yamas and niyamas. In this time, I also got into residency in Texas and decided to make a big move (not one I was particularly happy about in the moment) but our readings, discussions, and meditations helped me let go of the expectations I had built for myself so I could be excited for my next adventure.”

For those who do feel called to teach, the opportunity is certainly there. After completing all program requirements, you will be eligible for RYT200 certification through Yoga Alliance. This certification is widely recognized, and you can apply for a teaching role at Midtown Yoga or another studio or fitness center. You would also have the tools to create your own offerings, whether to friends, a community group, or the general public.. This experience is yours to define. Whether you leave ready to guide others or simply more grounded in your own practice, you’ll walk away with a deeper connection to yourself—and a lasting appreciation for all that yoga can be, both on and off the mat.

What will I walk away with?

A deeper understanding of who you are.

Tools to teach a complete yoga class.

A community that sees you, supports you, and sometimes hands you tissues during savasana.

You’ll leave with new skills and earn your eligibility for your RYT200 certification through Yoga Alliance, but you’ll also heighten your curiosity to learn, discover a new kind of self-love, and understand what it means to be present. The kind of transformation that lingers long after graduation day.

As Kara, MY YTT 2025, wrote, “At the end of this training, we all found our voice and our passion for yoga on and off the mat deepened.”

And Julia, MY YTT 2025, added, “YTT allowed me to dig deeper into why and how I love myself. I have always appreciated my own existence, but now I have a new level of awareness and intention behind the choices I make.”

There’s no way to know exactly what you’ll walk away with, but you will walk away changed. Sometimes the most powerful takeaway is simply the reminder that you’re already whole—and that this practice will always be here to bring you back to yourself.

Ready to begin?

This is your sign.

You don’t have to be “ready.” You don’t have to know your next step. You just have to feel the pull—and say yes to it. The Midtown Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training Program is waiting for you with open arms, full hearts, and a damn good reading list.

“For anyone considering signing up for MY YTT, I say that they may never be ready and to just do it! You do not want to look back and regret not signing up out of fear of not being ready. I also would ask what being ready even means and how they would even know if/when they are!” says Kelly, MY YTT 2025

We’ll meet you exactly where you are.

Let’s begin.
