Go with your flow — even in a mask!

Let’s talk about masks.

We know that practicing yoga in a mask might not be your first choice, and we get it! We went straight to the experts—your favorite Midtown Yoga instructors and mask-wearing members—to get the 411 on face coverings in the studio. Read more about their experiences here . . .

"I have been teaching and practicing in a mask since the studio re-opened in September—not only because it makes me feel safe and more at ease, but also to respect and protect those around me. I prefer cloth masks because they're lightweight, easy to wash, and breathable even when you’re working up a sweat. If wearing a simple piece of fabric on my face is what I need to do to keep practicing and keep those around me safe, I'm in! Let’s mask up as a community and flow! :)" -Jayne

"Consider an Under Armour face mask for your next hot yoga class. This is without question my go-to mask for teaching and taking classes. I have personally tested this mask (and others) in the hot studio for an hour flow. I found that this mask actually keeps cool! There is ample space around the mouth area so I never have that “suffocating” feel. It fits securely around my nose and ears. I am 8 months into using this mask, and it has maintained its shape and fit. I was skeptical at first, but you definitely can work up a sweat in this mask and still breathe easily. I highly recommend it!" - Jackie

UA Sportsmask, $30

"I have tasted the inside of my mask more times than I would like to admit. This mask frame keeps the mask material away from your mouth while still protecting you and those around you. I love this mask accessory because you can use it with any mask you already own. Slide the soft, flexible cage underneath your mask, breath with ease during any activity, and never suck in your mask again!" - Dakota

Silicon Mask Frame, $12 for 5 on Amazon

"As both a teacher and a student, I prefer disposable masks. They make me feel safe—and free to move and breathe throughout the entire class. Disposable masks almost always have an adjustable nose piece that holds the mask in place so that I don't have to adjust it or touch my face throughout class. They are very breathable, so I never feel like I can’t catch my breath or overheated. Pro tip → If you're worried you'll get too sweaty, bring a back up mask and switch it out halfway through your practice!" - Rachel

Black Disposable Masks, $16 for 100 on Amazon

"I wasn't wild about wearing a mask in a hot yoga studio, and it turns out I was wrong. It's simply not a big deal. Try it twice. Halfway through your first class, you probably won't even know it's there. I've worn a mask for the last few weeks. Like so many other things in 2020, it's something I do now without thinking twice. We need the time space and space that yoga provides, so pop on that mask and find your bliss. I'll see you on your mat." - Hal, Midtown Yoga member

"For comfort and breathability, washable silk masks are the way to go! The silk feels great on my skin, and the mask doesn't interfere with my practice—plus they come in cute patterns and still look stylish!" - Michelle
